Art Walk: Participating Artist Application
Our next event is March 15th, 2019 from 5 pm to 8 pm in downtown St. Johns. The application is due by February 15th and participating artists will be notified on February 19th.
North Portland, the “Peninsula”, and St. Johns in particular, is home to talented artists and a burgeoning art scene, and it’s time to celebrate the creative spirit of the neighborhood! The St. Johns ArtBURST is a series of arts engagement events connecting local artists and North Portland neighborhoods. During Friday’s Art Walk, we will pair an artist with selected St. Johns businesses in downtown St. Johns for display and sale of your work.
With these quarterly events, we hope to:
1.) increase access to and appreciation of the arts; 2.) support and strengthen the artist community in St. Johns and North Portland; 3.) engage the St. Johns business community; 4.) celebrate the diverse cultural communities in North Portland and; 5.) build community by facilitating conversations and connections. We (our board, staff and volunteers) believe that economic disparities exist within our society. We also believe that these disparities have marginalized many community members - people of color, immigrants and refugees, women, members of the LGBTQ+ community, youth, and the elderly. As part of this initiative, we seek to engage local artists from marginalized communities, including communities of color and LGBTQ artists, in our artBURST programming. Expectations of Participating Artists
1) The event is Friday night from 5 pm to 8 pm. All participating artists are expected to be present during these hours.
2) Artist will need to coordinate with business owner in order to arrange times for installation prior to event.
3) Artists are expected to manage all sales.
