Legislative Bill Workshop

  • St. Johns Center for Opportunity 8250 North Lombard Street Portland, OR, 97203 United States (map)

Would you like to learn how to stay informed and advocate for such things as: Housing, Energy, Education, Voting, Reproductive rights, Presidential tax returns and more….All these and more are active issues in the Oregon Legislature right now.

Come, bring a friend and your computer [optional] and find out how easy it is to stay up to date and influence our state government on the issues you care about. We'll learn how to use OLIS - the Oregon Legislative Information System - to be the most effective during this legislative session.

You can have a voice. Your legislators want to hear from you. This online tool lets you look up bills that affect YOUR life [even if you don’t know the bill number], set up email tracking, and give you an easy way to send comments to legislators. And, when a bill has a committee hearing, you readily see how to email that committee so that your ideas will be considered. You can also see how others who wrote the committee felt, and you can watch hearings live.

Donna Cohen, MLIS, MEd, conducts Civics workshops, including one on Citizen Advocacy, and she will be doing a free hour-long workshop focused on how you can stay up to date, informed, and influence the state legislature. Come by and get cozy with your state legislature!
