Placemaking in the Plaza
"Our public spaces are as profound as we allow them to be" - Candy Chang
For decades, the public plaza located in the downtown corridor of St. Johns has been a staple fixture for the community. The plaza regularly comes alive with community activities like the Farmers Market, St. Johns Bizarre, Friends of Baltimore Woods plant sale, and more. The St. Johns Center for Opportunity works to support these activities and to ensure that the plaza stays clean and vibrant. We do this by engaging residents and business owners in its upkeep and by supporting other community groups who use the space with fiscal sponsorship and/or by lending them event equipment or helping them to spread the word about their event. Here's how you can get involved!
The Center for Opportunity staff invite you to join them on the Plaza every third Sunday from 1-3pm for cleanup projects and pop-up activities. It's a great chance to get your hands dirty, help out the community, and re-engage with our public spaces!
If you're looking to show your love for the Plaza even more, you can join our Action Team! This team helps to coordinate and promote monthly volunteer days. We focus on engaging in projects that improve the cleanliness and safety of the Plaza, as well as increase community engagement opportunities. Contact Jenna Hudson at email@example.com for more information or to get involved.
We meet at the Center for Opportunity (8250 N. Lombard) on the first Wednesday of every month at 7:15pm.
Host an event in the plaza
You can schedule your event in the plaza by coordinating with the St. Johns Business Boosters. They have been long-time schedulers of the plaza and help ensure that multiple events are not scheduled for the same day. You can fill out their online form by clicking here.
