When is the St. Johns Farmers Market open?

In 2026, the market is open every Saturday, 9-2, from May 2 through November 21. Our Holiday Market will take place in the market’s normal location on Saturday, December 12 from 10-2.

Where is the market located?

The market is located outside in a parking lot at the corner of N. Charleston Ave. and N. Central St. Access to the lots are generously donated by the St. Johns Church and the St. Johns Bachelor Club.

Is the market open rain or shine?

Yes – the market is open through all of the different types of weather that Portland experiences from May to December. In the case of extreme or unsafe weather conditions, we may consider closures or alternate market hours. Please keep an eye on our Instagram and Facebook pages for weather-related updates.

How can I take public transportation to the market?

Take bus lines #4, 16, 44, or 75. Stop at N. Lombard & Charleston eastbound. Stop at N. Lombard & John westbound. Continue north on N. Charleston Ave. about a block and a half and the market will be on your right, just past the library.

Can I use EBT at the market?

Yes! We welcome EBT at the market. Stop at the market Information Booth to transfer your EBT balance into tokens to spend on groceries at the market, and access matching programs for fruit and veggie vouchers. Please see our food access page for more information on using your EBT at the market.

Why did the market move from the St. Johns Plaza?

In 2020, the market moved from the Plaza on Lombard Street to its current location at N. Charleston Ave. and N. Central St., due to the construction of the Central Lofts apartment building. While no one who was involved in the organization at that time is still on SJCO’s staff or board, it is our understanding that the market did attempt to move back to the Plaza location at the end of construction. This was not possible at the time since some neighboring businesses did not approve the street closure to move the market back.

Since the market moved to its current location six years ago, it has grown and changed. The current market location is larger, offering additional space for small business vendors, a dedicated covered dining area, and ample nearby parking. The market has thrived in this space, seeing a near doubling of daily visitor traffic and a near tripling of food access funds disbursement.

It is our goal and hope to work with other community stakeholders to improve cross-promotion between the farmers market and the business district on Lombard Street. Our staff and board are committed to finding new ways to support a vibrant business community throughout St. Johns as a whole.

What is the St. Johns Farmers Market’s relationship to the St. Johns Center for Opportunity?

The St. Johns Farmers Market was founded in 2009 and became a program of the St. Johns Center for Opportunity (SJCO) in 2014. SJCO operated the farmers market alongside its other economic development programs, which were funded through Prosper Portland by the Interstate Corridor TIF District and focused on supporting the brick-and-mortar businesses on Lombard Street. Due to a wide range of factors, including an anticipated loss in TIF funding, SJCO’s Board of Directors voted in 2025 to transform the organization to focus exclusively on the St. Johns Farmers Market. We are looking forward to focusing our efforts on this amazing community asset and continuing to strengthen and expand the market over the coming years while maintaining SJCO’s commitment to equity.
