Financials & Reports

Below, you can find information such as our email newsletter archive, latest financials, by-laws, and neighborhood profile. SJCO is a 501c3 nonprofit organization registered in the State of Oregon, which means that we annually file financial information with the IRS and the Oregon Department of Justice.

As a 501c3 organization without members, we are structured differently than a neighborhood association or business district. We are driven by our mission rather than the interests of members. We do not have regular general assembly meetings, instead holding monthly Board meetings. Our Board of Directors is comprised of volunteer leaders who represent the community as we make equity-focused decisions around how to deploy our resources. We raise all funding to cover the cost of staff and programming from various grants (public & private), individual contributors, local businesses, and from fees charged for events.

Have additional questions about how our organization is structured or how we operate? You can email our Executive Director at exec@stjohnsopportunity.org.

Neighborhood Prosperity Initiative Profile

St. Johns Center for Opportunity is part of the Neighborhood Prosperity Initiative, a Prosper Portland program designed to support social equity-based community economic development at the neighborhood level. Our St. Johns neighborhood profile, provided by Prosper Portland, shows key statistics around economic development in our neighborhood. The profile was developed to evaluate the successes of the districts in serving communities across Portland over the last decade. Over this period of time, NPI districts have seen varying levels of change in employment, business mix, community characteristics, housing prices, and commercial real estate conditions. As this neighborhood economic profile was completed, our communities were hit by both the public health and economic impacts of COVID-19. The data in this profile now represent not only the results of a decade’s worth of community-led economic development work, but now also the baseline to which communities can use to evaluate their economic recovery from COVID-19.

The Neighborhood Prosperity Initiative has the existing infrastructure to support community-level economic recovery. The NPI districts have been working through strategic capacity building to support economic development for nearly nine years. The information in this economic profile can help our district prioritize recovery resources and outreach efforts for the businesses and community members who need it most, and can serve as a baseline for understanding the recovery status of employment, different business types, neighborhood characteristics, and the real estate market as we enter what is likely to be a longer-term economic recovery period. With the organizational capacity, community connections, and baseline information on the conditions in our communities, the NPI districts are well positioned to continue to support their communities through the economic recovery period following COVID-19, just as they have done over the last nine years.
