Food Access Programs
We have multiple food access programs at the market to improve access to groceries for low-income shoppers. You can access these programs at the market Information Booth, found on the N. Central St. side of the market.
Double Up Food Bucks: A SNAP Matching Program
The Farmers Market Fund’s Double Up Food Bucks (DUFB) program matches SNAP dollars spent at farmers markets across Oregon. Through the program, the St. Johns Farmers Market provides SNAP shoppers with a dollar-for-dollar match of up to $20 per week to buy additional fresh produce at the market.
How it works:
No sign-up process is required. SNAP participants simply swipe their Oregon Trail card at the Information Booth in exchange for $1 wooden tokens, which can be spent on SNAP-eligible grocery items at the market. For every $1 of SNAP, up to $20 is matched in Double Up Food Bucks paper vouchers to purchase additional eligible produce items from market vendors.
“Because of the match, I was able to buy my first carton of blueberries in three years.” - Double Up Food Bucks participant
Produce Match: An EBT Cash Matching Program
The Farmers Market Fund’s Produce Match program matches EBT Cash dollars spent at farmers markets across Oregon. Through the program, the St. Johns Farmers Market provides EBT Cash shoppers with a dollar-for-dollar match of up to $20 per week to buy additional fresh produce at the market.
How it works:
No sign-up process is required. EBT Cash participants simply swipe their Oregon Trail card at the Information Booth in exchange for $5 wooden tokens to be used on all items at the market. For every $1 of EBT Cash, up to $20 is matched in Produce Match paper vouchers to purchase additional eligible produce from market vendors.

Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides low-income households with benefits that they can use like cash at grocery stores and participating farmers markets, including the St. Johns Farmers Market. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) administers SNAP, formerly known as “food stamps,” through its Food and Nutrition Service (FNS). Each state has its own electronic benefits transfer (EBT) card design, and in Oregon, they are also called “Oregon Trail Cards.” Learn more about SNAP in Oregon. EBT transactions are limited to $100 per customer per day.
How it works:
Funds are loaded onto an EBT card that individuals can use like a credit or debit card. At the St. Johns Farmers Market, participants determine the amount of tokens they wish to purchase from the Information Booth, which are then used as a form of currency to purchase grocery items at the market (fruits, vegetables, mushrooms, bread, baked goods, meat, eggs, honey, condiments, coffee beans, and other SNAP-eligible items. No ready-to-eat foods.)
Tokens purchased at St. Johns Farmers Market may only be used at St. Johns Farmers Market and will not be accepted at other farmers markets. Likewise, St. Johns Farmers Market does not accept tokens from other farmers markets.

Oregon Farm Direct Nutrition Program
The St. Johns Farmers Market requires farmer vendors who sell produce to participate in the Oregon Farm Direct Nutrition Program (FDNP). Oregon FDNP is a state-administered, federal nutrition program serving income-eligible seniors as well as families enrolled in the WIC (Women, Infants and Children) program.
How it works:
Participants receive $4 vouchers to spend on fresh produce directly with authorized farmers. You can spend these vouchers directly at the farmers’ booths. There is no need to check in to stop at the Information Booth first, but we are always happy to answer any questions!
