Opened in 2019 with a love for all things yarn, books, and St Johns, Weird Sisters started as a pop-up behind Two Stroke Coffee with Two Rivers Bookstore (a pop up inside of a pop up!).

The combination of books and yarn seemed perfectly paired to us. We moved to our current space in late summer of 2019. COVID hit and we faced so many challenges but we’ve made it through due to huge support from the community and the connections we’ve made with our amazing local fiber businesses.

It’s important to us to support and partner with BIPOC led organizations and to create a welcoming and inviting shop for everyone. In recent years, there has been some much needed discussion and highlighting of racism and deep seated biases in the fiber industry, with many BIPOC crafters expressing how unwelcome they’ve felt in LYSs (Local Yarn Shops).

It’s always been a mission of ours to never let anyone that walks into our store feel like an outsider. We are the outsiders and we’ve tried to create a space for us book and yarn weirdos to be ourselves. I hope when people walk in they feel like they’ve found their people.

Being in a bookshop has also helped us share our love of fiber and crafts with people of all skill levels and introduce knitting and crochet to folks that otherwise would pass us by.

Every person we meet is a potential new knitter and we love the opportunity to grow our community of book and yarn lovers!

Follow along with us on social media this month as we continue to highlight this incredible family business. If you or a business you admire, would like to be highlighted, please send an email to David our Outreach Coordinator at: community@stjohnsopportunity.org
