Mosaic Taphouse & Chem Gio

THIS YEAR, WE WILL FEATURE ONE BIPOC-OWNED BUSINESS IN THE ST. JOHNS NEIGHBORHOOD EACH MONTH.

Throughout 2023, SJCO will be highlighting one BIPOC-owned business in St. Johns each month. If you would like to nominate a business to be featured, please contact community@stjohnsopportunity.org.

For December we are excited to introduce you to Mosaic Taphouse and Chem Gio!

Meet Jarek and Laurence Oliver, the dynamic duo behind Mosaic Taphouse, our BIPOC Business of the Month. As proud owners, they share a deep love for exceptional beer and the power it holds in fostering community connections. Embracing their identity as a married gay couple, they recognize the significance of representation in every aspect of life.

Located in the heart of St. Johns, Mosaic Taphouse is on a mission to become the premier destination for craft beer enthusiasts. Beyond serving as a hub for diverse social interactions, the establishment proudly amplifies the voices of Portland's Filipino and Queer communities. Collaborating with partners such as Chém Gió and Kalesa Coffee, they offer an extensive selection of beverages and cuisine that reflects their commitment to diversity.

At the core of their vision is a dedication to forging authentic connections with patrons, creating a welcoming atmosphere, and fostering community engagement through a myriad of events. With aspirations to be a symbol of diversity and a leading craft beer haven in Portland, Mosaic Taphouse is devoted to enriching not only St. Johns but communities beyond.

Within Mosaic Taphouse, discover Chém Gió, a culinary gem crafted by the talented chef and owner, Anh. Drawing inspiration from Vietnamese and Vietnamese fusion cuisine, Anh, formerly of Yen Ha, promises to tantalize diners with his innovative culinary creations.

Jarek shares, “Laurence and I, being husbands, and him being Filipino (as well as Anh being Vietnamese), we plan to highlight our connections with the queer and Southeast Asian communities. For the queer community, we'll host drag events, Ru Paul’s Drag Race viewing parties, and create a space where everyone feels at home.”

He adds, “We also intend to be transparent about being owned by two husbands and plan to share what that means to us on our social media and in news articles. For the Filipino community, we'll have San Miguel beer available at all times in our taphouse, bridging the gap for those seeking a taste of home here in Portland.”

Join us in celebrating Mosaic Taphouse, where diversity, inclusivity, and a love for craft beer converge to create a truly exceptional experience.Hours
